Miss Africa Project
The money from The Miss Africa Event supported the 3 income-generating projects of 3 associations of the child headed households of Tumba, Matyazo and Huye of Huye District in the Southern Province of Rwanda. The money also funded a seminar on psycho-education for the three groups of orphans.
The Seminar took place from the 7th to the 8th August 2010 and gathered more than 150 orphans. All the topics were taught by MMHA volunteers.
The topics covered were:
- .Impact of conflict on the community including conflict management.
- Trauma management.
- How do people learn to live with their problems (coping behavior).
- .Involvement of a traumatized in his/her healing.
The rest of money was donated to Orphans to support and strengthen their current income generating projects. These mini projects had started under the support of the Mental Health Empowerment Project in the Southern Province. Each group received 1 million Rwandan Francs.
The 1st group Of Orphans (Humura association) is living in Tumba. It counts 92 orphans of the 1994 Genocide. Most of them are secondary school students. Their mini project consists of a Public Secretariat (printing and binding) near the National University of Rwanda.
Matyazo orphans are in the 2nd group. They live together and they are about 40. They are running a very succeeding studio (recording and shooting videos for e.g. wedding parties).
The 3rd group of orphans is living in the Huye District. They don’t stay in the same household unlike the 2 previous groups. Most of them are heading households and some are not going to school. They are grouped in an association whose leadership coordinates the activities regarding their project consisting in breeding pigs. They have also started growing rabbit.
Due to the donation from Miss Africa all 3 projects are able to continue.
We greatly appreciate your donation.
Best wishes, IMCC/ Mental Health Rwanda.
